Monday of Easter Week 7 – Devotion

Text: Acts 16:16–34

We often wonder if our faith has any real power to change things—especially when we face injustice or feel trapped in hopeless situations. Can God really break chains and bring light to the darkest places?

In Acts 16, Paul and Silas are imprisoned in Philippi after casting out a spirit from a slave girl who was being exploited. Their obedience to Christ lands them in stocks, bruised and bleeding. But at midnight, they pray and sing hymns—and God answers with an earthquake that shakes the foundations of the prison. Not only are their chains loosed, but the jailer and his household come to faith in Christ. This story reminds us that even in suffering, God is at work in surprising ways.

Paul and Silas show us what it means to trust in God's power, even when everything seems stacked against them. They didn't just endure their suffering; they worshipped through it. And their witness led others to salvation.

If you're feeling stuck, whether by external circumstances or inward struggles, remember this: God still sets prisoners free. Jesus bore our deepest bondage—sin and death—and broke its grip through the cross. Worship isn’t a passive act; it’s a weapon. When you lift your voice in praise, you’re participating in a kingdom that cannot be shaken.

Transform Our Hearts Through Prayer

Lord, You are mighty to save. Thank You for the freedom and victory we have in Jesus. Forgive us when we give in to despair. Holy Spirit, help us to worship even when we feel defeated. Use our lives to shine light into dark places and bring others to faith in You. Amen.
