Text: Psalm 111
There’s a hunger in the modern soul for something solid—something praiseworthy, trustworthy, and true. We’re flooded with half-truths, shifting opinions, and heroes who keep letting us down. Is there anything or anyone truly worth trusting, worth praising?
Psalm 111 gives a resounding yes. It is a hymn of praise to the Lord for His faithful and righteous works. The psalm opens with wholehearted worship in the assembly of God's people, then recounts the deeds that prove God’s character: His provision, His covenant, His justice, and His redemption. It’s a psalm meant to anchor the heart in God’s past faithfulness as a lens for present trust. “The works of his hands are faithful and just… He has sent redemption to his people” (vv. 7, 9). In the ancient Hebrew world, remembering was more than mental recall—it was spiritual formation. To remember God’s deeds was to renew your confidence in His future grace.
As Christians, we now see this redemption fulfilled in Jesus Christ. The greatest of God’s “wonderful works” is the cross and resurrection. The One who embodied all righteousness also bore all our sin, and now lives to intercede for us. When we worship, we are not pretending everything is fine; we are declaring that Someone greater than our troubles holds us fast.
So let worship reshape your week. Begin each day this week with one line of praise to God—not because you feel like it, but because He is worthy. Write out three “works of His hands” from your own life and thank Him for them. Let Psalm 111 be your playlist—not just in music, but in memory and mindset. He is still the God who redeems, who provides, who remembers His covenant forever.
Transform Our Hearts Through Prayer
God of wonders, You have done marvelous things. Forgive us when we forget, when we grumble, when we fixate on what You haven’t done and ignore all You have. Renew our minds by Your Word, and teach us the joy of remembering. Holy Spirit, write Your faithfulness on our hearts. Let praise rise even when life is hard, for You are always good. Amen.
