Friday of Easter Week 4 – Devotion

Text: John 10:22–30

Security is one of our deepest needs. We crave it in relationships, finances, health. But life is full of uncertainty. How can we know we’re safe? How can we be sure we won’t lose our grip on faith, or that God won’t let go of us?

Jesus speaks into that fear in John 10. Surrounded by skeptics, He declares, “My sheep hear my voice… I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand” (vv. 27–28). The image is rich with intimacy and protection. Jesus is the Good Shepherd, and His sheep are known, called, and held. What secures us is not our grip on Him, but His grip on us. And the Father’s hand is just as strong: “No one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand” (v. 29).

This is gospel assurance. In a world of fragile promises, Jesus offers eternal life, secured not by performance but by His power and love. If you are His, you are safe.

Let that truth quiet your fears. You are not holding on alone. Practice listening for His voice in Scripture. Trust His leadership even when the path feels dark. And rest—really rest—in the promise: you are held by the Shepherd who laid down His life for you.

Transform Our Hearts Through Prayer

Good Shepherd, You know us, You call us, and You never let us go. Thank You for the gift of eternal life and the security of being held in Your hand. Forgive our fears and doubts. Holy Spirit, help us listen for Your voice and follow You with peace and trust. Amen.
