Thursday of Easter Week 2 – Devotion

Text: Revelation 1:1–8

Many of us fear the future. Wars rage, economies wobble, and personal crises loom like storms on the horizon. Even within the Church, we can feel a creeping anxiety—what’s coming next? Will we make it through? Is God really in control?

The opening verses of Revelation remind us that Jesus is not just a past figure—He is the Lord of history, present and future. John, exiled on Patmos, writes to churches under pressure: some persecuted, some compromised. The message? Jesus is alive, reigning, and coming again. He is the “Alpha and the Omega,” the beginning and the end. He is the faithful witness (who suffered and died), the firstborn from the dead (who rose again), and the ruler of kings on earth (who now reigns). This vision is not meant to terrify but to strengthen weary hearts.

Revelation is not a puzzle book—it’s a hope letter. And it begins with a blessing for those who read and hear and keep what is written. The risen Jesus holds time itself in His hands. That means our fears do not define the future. He does. And His promise is sure: “Behold, He is coming with the clouds.” Not to destroy His people, but to deliver them fully.
So when fear rises, preach to your own heart: “He loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood” (v. 5). You are not adrift. You are held. Let that shape your calendar, your plans, your prayers. Look at the headlines through the lens of heaven. And wait—not in dread, but in hope.

Transform Our Hearts Through Prayer

Lord Jesus, You are the Alpha and the Omega. You hold our lives, our histories, and our futures. Teach us not to fear the unknown, but to rest in Your known character. Holy Spirit, lift our eyes from anxiety to adoration. Help us live each day in the light of Your coming kingdom. Strengthen our trust in the One who was, and is, and is to come. Amen.
