The Forgiveness of Sins (19th Wednesday - Questions 84-86)

Guilt can weigh heavily on the human soul. Many people carry past mistakes like chains, wondering if true forgiveness is possible. The good news of the gospel is that in Christ, we are fully forgiven and set free.

The catechism teaches that forgiveness of sins is a gift of God’s grace, made possible through Jesus’ atoning sacrifice on the cross (Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:13-14). When we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). This forgiveness is not earned but received by faith, and it leads us into a life of repentance and renewal (Acts 3:19; 2 Corinthians 5:17).

If you struggle with guilt or doubt God’s mercy, reflect on the truth that His forgiveness is complete. Explore questions 84-86 in the catechism to deepen your understanding of God’s grace in forgiving sins.
  • Receive God’s forgiveness with faith, knowing that Christ’s sacrifice is sufficient.
  • Extend forgiveness to others, as a reflection of God’s grace in your life.

Transform Our Heart Through Prayer
Father, thank You for the forgiveness I have in Christ. Help me to trust in Your mercy, to walk in freedom, and to extend grace to others. Amen.
