Monday of Easter Week 6 – Devotion

Text: Acts 16:9–15

We’ve all faced moments of confusion when our plans fall through, and we wonder if we’ve missed God’s will. Discouragement can creep in, especially when we think we’re doing something good. How do we discern where God wants us to go?

In Acts 16, Paul is traveling through Asia Minor, preaching the gospel. But surprisingly, the Holy Spirit forbids him from entering certain regions. Then, in the night, Paul receives a vision: a man from Macedonia pleads, “Come over and help us.” Paul and his companions obey immediately, and their first encounter is with Lydia, a businesswoman in Philippi. The Lord opens her heart to believe, and her home becomes the first European church plant.
This moment marks the gospel’s entrance into Europe. What looked like closed doors were really God’s way of redirecting Paul to exactly where he was needed. Lydia’s conversion is a quiet but profound turning point in the story of the church.

God’s guidance often comes through closed doors as well as open ones. If you’re facing uncertainty, don’t assume God has forgotten you. Stay faithful. Keep praying. Listen. He may be preparing hearts you don’t yet see—and He delights in including you in the unfolding of His plans.

Transform Our Hearts Through Prayer

Father, thank You that You lead us with perfect wisdom. Forgive us when we grow impatient or frustrated with Your timing. Holy Spirit, give us sensitivity to Your direction and confidence in Your purposes. Help us to follow where You lead, even when the way is unexpected. Amen.
