The Communion of Saints (18th Wednesday - Questions 76-83)

April 30, 2025

In an age of loneliness and isolation, many long for a sense of belonging. The Christian faith offers not only a personal relationship with Christ but also a place within the communion of saints—the vast family of believers across time and space.

The catechism teaches that the communion of saints is the spiritual union of all Christians, both living and departed, who are bound together in Christ (Hebrews 12:1; Ephesians 2:19-22). We are called to pray for one another, encourage one another, and share in the life of the Church (Colossians 3:16; 1 Thessalonians 5:11). This communion is most fully expressed in worship and the celebration of the Eucharist, where we join with the whole company of heaven in praising God (Revelation 7:9-12).

If you have ever felt alone in your faith, take heart: you are part of a vast, eternal family in Christ. Explore questions 76-83 in the catechism to understand the depth of our union with one another in Christ.
  • Embrace the communion of saints, recognizing your connection to the global and historic Church.
  • Participate in the life of the Church through worship, fellowship, and acts of service.

Transform Our Heart Through Prayer
Lord, thank You for the communion of saints. Help me to love and support my fellow believers and to remember that I am never alone in Christ. Amen.
